Paulo Freire
Book
Professor Pedrinho Guareschi, a Brazilian scholar specializing in Paulo Freire, was brought to ANU in 2009 to lead a workshop on Freire. The workshop was successful. Professor Larry Saha and Dr John Minns are coordinating the production of an edited collection on Freire based on the papers presented at this workshop along with several other papers which have been commissioned.
US policy and Latin America
Book
This is a project designed to produce a book on US official policies and broader social/political attitudes about Latin America. Chapters are included on illegal immigration, NAFTA, Latin America’s place in the broader US foreign policy framework, Cuba, Venezuela, drugs and the Mexican-American influence on domestic US policy. Five Australian and two US scholars are involved. The book will be edited by Dr John Minns and Professor Barry Carr.
Australia and Latin America
Book
Based on a grant from COALAR, ten chapters were commissioned for the production of a book on Australia’s interests in and relations with Latin America. In June 2010, a seminar with contributors was held at the ANU.
Special Issue of the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Research (JILAR)
A special Issue of the JILAR has been set aside for papers delivered at the AILASA 2010 conference held at the ANU. The issue will be published in 2010 and Dr John Minns will be the guest editor.

Spain and Latin American Independence
Book
Following a successful application to the Spanish Government Cultural Cooperation Program, $9,000 has been granted to complete a book of papers related to the Independence of Spain’s former Latin American colonies. This month (August) contributions have been invited. Dr John Minns and Mr Guy Emerson will be joint editors.
